..adenaline-filled experience on a buggy in close touch with nature
Again the challenge to cover 80 kilometers from the mouth of the Rio Negro on its north shore starting from `La Baliza' to Isla del Jabali - Bahia San Blas is starting to take shape!!!
The route will depend on the wind conditions, meaning it may be done from north to south or south to north.
La Baliza is located 30 kilometers from the city of Viedma, where we'll have our base camp, and from where we will move on to the starting place:
Option 1. With wind blowing from South to North - Leaving La Baliza we will cover 60 kilometers from our lodging spot to the El Condor beach. The buggies and other equipment will be moved in a special vehicle.
Option 2. With wind blowing from North to South -- pilots will be taken 150 kilometers, like in the past edition, to the Villa Balnearia San Blas and will start the journey from there.
Logistic support will be provided by 3 or 4 SUV rentals to assist pilots, pickup laggards or any other situation that may arise. We will have VHF communication systems.
We will travel with a medical team to assist in any urgency.
The traverse will start on the low tide to make the most of the hard terrain and we estimate an average speed of 30 kilometers per hour, which would take 4 to 5 hours including the resting time.
This year we will divide the groups in two categories:
- Beginners or pilots who for lack of appropriate equipment cannot go fast.
- Advanced pilots.
This division seeks to have two well-defined groups to allow the fastest pilots to move freely without having to stop to avoid the less rapid ones.
Pilots won't be allowed to move out of sight of the closest support vehicle or wander behind the meadows.
A lunch will be provided as well as a meal in mid-afternoon. Each pilot will carry its own so as to avoid unnecessary delays.
The pilots who fall behind will have to accept being towed to catch up with the rest so as to avoid having pilots spread out to far apart.
The transfer from the San Blas or La Baliza at the end of the route to the lodging at El Condor will be carried out with the van rentals we will have for that end.
Schedule of Activities
Activities will start Friday 25. Pilots who want to arrive at an earlier date can do it as long as they get in touch with the organizing team so as to be able to make the necessary lodging reservations.
Friday April 14
- In Viedma until 10 a.m.
Sign up period and gathering to welcome pilots with their friends.
The cost for the traverse will be ..... U$S per pilot.
The costs will be adjusted depending on the number of pilots that end up signing up. So there may be a slight variation.
We will have the final cost shortly.
The funds will go to cover:
- Round trip transport for pilots, buggies and equipment from El Condor / Viedma / San Blas (150 kilometers) or El Condor / Viedma / La Baliza and back
- Expenses for gas for the rental SUV's that will escort the pilots and dinner for its drivers.
- Two lunch boxes for pilots during the traverse.
- Dinner Party
Pilots who offer their vehicles (only SUV's accepted) for the traverse will have special discounts.
The pilots and their company will be welcomed in Viedma up until Friday at 11 am. They should communicate via email to coordinate pickup. They will be informed of activities and those who prefer to stay in Viedma than El Condor will be able to do so.
Those who arrive at a later time, will have to provide for their own transfer to El Condor.
- In The Mouth or La Boca during the afternoon for trial runs and testing equipment.
Saturday April 6
For organization sake, being on time will be a critical factor for the success of the event.
The low tide is very early in the morning, which is why we'll have to be at the starting line at dawn.
6 am
Pilots gathering. (already should have had breakfast and have their meals for the day) . They should be at the Colonia de la Direccion de Deportes to move from there to the starting point.
When all pilots are gathered at `La Baliza' will will get going . We estimate this to happen around 7.30 - 8.00 am at the latest.
For those who do this for the first time , we want to remind you that at the beginning and end there are areas which are flooded due to the high tide. That will force laggards to be picked up by the SUV's if they have failed to cover the necessary distance in time.
Pilots will have to obey the orders of the last vehicle and pull their kites/sails to get in the cars and join the rest of the group.
It is recommended that pilots take dry clothes to change into on arrival.
Sunday April 17
Free buggy ride in El Condor
Group races. We'll have teams of two to four pilots.
Reminder: This is `just for fun' competition.
Note of Caution: All pilots will have to wear protective equipment and the use of a helmet is Mandatory !!!!
Many thanks to all and let's have a lot of fun in the wind!!!!
